As a stumbling amateur “stacking assisted” astrophotographer, I’ve looked to a number of sites online for guidance. And whilst I’ve used a few software packages, I’ve settled on having to get across IRIS and so most of the sites I come across are slanted in that direction.
The following is primarily a list of sites that I’ve found to be useful:
- http://www.kellysky.net/procccd.htm (A pretty decent guide to the subject)
- http://www.saratogaskies.com/articles/cookbook/index.html (A very good guide to astrophotography using IRIS)
- http://www.astropix.com/HTML/I_ASTROP/TOC_AP.HTM (Has some useful guidance – but without any real focus on the software side of things – which means the usual “no alt-az” mantra)
- http://surf.arc.nasa.gov/archive/jhatton.pdf (An article that gives a good overview of the domain)
- http://www.astrosurf.org/buil/us/iris/iris.htm (Christian Buil’s IRIS - a very powerful piece of software, though it has a learning curve)
- http://www.sfu.ca/~dmunro/D50.html (Notes from a Nikon D50 user who uses IRIS)
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drizzle_(image_processing) (Wikipedia entry on DRIZZLE image processing)
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richardson-Lucy_deconvolution (Wikipedia on Richardson Lucy Deconvolution)
